SPAM (unsolicited and undesired e-mail) costs you more than just inconvenience. In a recent study SPAM represented the biggest unfunded liability an ISP faces. It is estimated that 20 percent of ISP monthly subscriber fee goes towards the costs of handling spam. The European Union has estimated the cost of spam to ordinary users alone at $8 billion per year.

All e-mail through our access and hosting services receive a special benefit. First, if the mail is sent through an open relay, it is dumped. As only SPAMMERS really use such open relay's, this cuts a lot of garbage out right away. Second, certain regions of the world are almost 100% dedicated to SPAM. They too are dropped. Third, your e-mail if measured against known SPAM activities and if it meets the criteria, it is marked as probable SPAM. We have found that almost all mail so marked is really SPAM. You can then set your client filters to sort this and place it into your trash or assumed spam folders. Trash is often set to be dumped upon log off. An assumed SPAM folder allows you to go and review it, then move any SPAM to the trash folder. If you find one that group that you normally want to see, just filter that address to your inbox. The remaining go to your trash or assumed spam. Below is a discussion how to set you filters in each of the three major e-mail clients. WebMail is not intended for heavy users and does not presently have junk filter capacity.

All but our economy clients also have the option of activating e-mail defense systems (spam, virus, and content protections) for e-mail.
