Retrieving E-mail with Outlook 2003 / 2002
This page will teach you how to set up Outlook 2003 to retrieve e-mail from
your OfficeOnWeb POP accounts. To configure Outlook, follow the instructions below.
- Open Microsoft Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2002
Notice: The E-mail Accounts command is on the Tools menu in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and Microsoft Outlook 2002. If you are using an earlier
version of Outlook, the following instructions do not apply. See instructions for Outlook 2000, Outlook
98, and Outlook 97
choose "Tools" from the menu bar.
- Choose "E-mail Accounts"
and click.
- Click on the "Add" button and then select "POP3".
- The Mail Account Properties box will pop up, and on the General tab fill
in the following information (yourbiz.com is the name of YOUR domain):
Server Names: any name you like (recommended: OfficeOnWeb e-mail)
Name: your first and last name
Organization: your company name
E-mail Address:
youraddress@yourbiz.com
Reply Address: youraddress@yourbiz.com
- Click on the "Servers" tab and fill in the following information:
Incoming (POP3) Server: yourbiz.com
Outgoing
(SMTP) Server: yourbiz.com
or officeonweb.net (if you are not a domain
account) OR your ISP alternative designation (earthlink.net
if you have earthlink dial up, etc.but why are you paying twice as much as us.)
Account
Name: your user ID
Password: your
password
Be sure that Secure Password Authentication and that Outgoing Authentication must not be selected. Click Test Account Settings
to verify that your account is working. If there is missing or incorrect information, such as your password, you will be prompted to supply or correct
it. Be sure your computer is connected to the Internet..
- Click on the Connection tab. If you want to log onto your ISP and then check your
mail, choose the option "I will establish connection manually". If you are in an office environment where Internet connection is provided
through the network, select "Connect through the LAN". If you want Outlook Express to dial into your ISP for you, then choose "Connect
using my phone line". (If you choose the latter, you will need to contact your ISP for instructions on configuring your dialer.) If we are
your ISP, we have online instructions at:
http://support.officeonweb.com/domain_server_numbers.htm
- If you want to configure additional settings, such as how you want your computer to connect
to your e-mail server, click More Settings. Otherwise, click Next.
- Click on "Finish" and then on "Close".
- Now to retrieve your mail, open Outlook, choose "Tools" from the menubar
and select "Send and Receive". You can also use the "Send and Receive" button if it is on your toolbar. Remember,
you must always "Send and Receive" before you are able to send any messages out. If you have not updated your client, it is posible
to get into an endless loop that the send is tried before the receive. In this case, you must copy the outgoing messages into another directory, send
and receive, then use the information to recreate the messages and send them again. If you lose connections due to any reason, bad phone line, noise,
or other problem, you will need to repeat the process.
Footnote: Some releases of Outlook 2000 contain an error that prevents you from sending out e-mail. If
you experience this problem, you may need to update your system to correct the problem.
